Johannesburg – Controversy continues to dog Mogale City, with ongoing spats between the ANC and the DA/EFF coalition forcing mayor Michael Holenstein to wield his axe on key members of his council.

On Friday, motions of no confidence were passed against ANC Speaker Patrick Lipudi and ANC chief whip Sipho Dube.

DA councillors Jacques Hoon and Earnest Modise are the new Speaker and chief whip respectively.

The ANC is now accusing DA mayor Holenstein of not pursuing proper channels when he convened the meeting.

The DA, in turn, is accusing the ANC of attempting to destabilise the municipality by refusing to convene meetings.

In terms of council rules, meetings have to be convened by the Speaker. It's alleged by the DA that the mayor asked the Speaker to call a meeting last month to pass a vote of no confidence in the Speaker and chief whip, which he refused to do.

He also allegedly refused to convene another meeting to approve an application for a further overdraft to pay municipal officials their bonuses.

The Speaker allegedly also refused to convene a meeting to appoint an acting municipal manager while the interview process for a new one was under way.

Eventually, because a number of councillors requested a meeting to be convened, Holenstein called one on Friday, at which the motion of no confidence was passed with a vote of 39. The ANC has 38 councillors, who were not present. The appointment of an acting municipal manager was also approved.

The DA political head for the West Rand, Alan Fuchs, said the ANC “simply could not accept the democratic process".

    Ford’s burning issue: readers respond

    INDUSTRY NEWS / 17 January 2017, 08:10am

    Jav

Following almost 50 reported fires, Ford SA on Monday announced that it would recall 4556 Kuga 1.6 EcoBoost models, produced between December 2012 and February 2014.

Ford SA CEO Jeff Nemeth said that while it would continue to investigate the issue, its research so far points to insufficient coolant circulation leading to a crack in the cylinder head, thus causing oil to leak onto hot engine components. Read more about the recall HERE.

But is it not too little too late? Has Ford’s reputation taken a bigger knock than it would ever care to admit? Here’s how our readers and various social media users have reacted to Ford’s announcement:

Ford Kuga Owner - Further to the media scandal surrounding the burning Ford Kuga’s, I personally think that every Kuga owner should be either:

    A: reimbursed

B: given a choice to choose another vehicle in that specific price range

The fact that the coolant systems, etc etc will be checked and replaced (or whatever Ford is going to do going forward, to soften the blow) is JUST NOT ENOUGH.

    jav uncensored free

This basically means that Kuga owners are left with NO CHOICE but to keep their vehicles with the hopes that nothing goes wrong in the future. DUH!

If it’s only 4500 vehicles, I really don’t see why they cannot compensate their clients.

FORD is big, huge and right now their name is being tarnished.

Anton Arendse – Ford SA has dragged its heels at the expense of its clientele. All Kuga owners should join the class action and make them face their responsibilities. The lives of loved ones are more valuable than a few extra thousand.

It is assumed that the burning Kugas are a result of overheating and coolant circulation problems. What happens if the cars are repaired and then still burn out?

I bought my wife a Kuga because it was comfortable for taking the kids to school. I shudder to think - what if something happened to my family because of Ford's poor response?

Ford SA needs to take responsibility and the broader community should not support such inept management of this incident.

Personally I have lost faith and will not purchase another Ford product. My life and that of my family is just more precious.

Modilati Mahlare – This incident has made me to change my mind on Ford related products. I was intending to buy a Ford bakkie and have changed my mind. The effect is that I'm likely going to think twice about Ford cars in future.

Chris – The handling of the Kuga debacle has been a major disaster for Ford.

No one in their right mind will trust Ford now and they will experience sharp decline in sales. They should be sued in class action and pay compensation to affected customers.

Ford has been in denial for months and still refuses to take responsibility for killing one Kuga driver. Shame!

    Boycott Ford!

Gary – Ford announce Kuga name change to Kombusta.

Diane – Ford should not take chances, after even reinspected cars caught alight, by blaming oil leaks and coolant systems when people's lives are at risk. Rather take back the faulted vehicles and reimburse those people who believed in the product. People with only one car being the Ford Kuga fear for they lives but are forced to use it from day to day because of work and FAMILY outings. It's about time they take it back permanently.

George – That should have happened in 2015 already!

Facebook and Twitter users were quick to criticise Ford SA after Tuesday's media briefing.

Joey Mekoa posted: “I have to say it was badly handled. The spin doctors did a terrible job to (the) Ford brand. No accountability at all. I’m done with Ford.”

Robert Sivambu wrote: “So does Ford South Africa now admit that it has been burying its head in the sand after weeks?”

#FordKuga has been trending on Twitter since the briefing.

Low growth a risk to credit rating - SARB

    heyzo uncen hd
    - South Africa's weak economic growth and heightened political risk are a risk to its investment grade sovereign credit rating, the central bank said on Wednesday.

In its second and last financial stability review for 2016, the Reserve Bank also said thin liquidity was a recurring problem for the rand currency, and it would closely monitor conditions in the currency market.

Africa's most industrialised economy is only expected to expand by 0.5 percent this year, down from a target of 0.9 percent the Treasury set in February.

The central bank also cut its own estimate to 0.4 percent in September, and kept interest rates on hold as a result, despite inflation pressures.

“The low economic growth is presenting headwinds to the domestic banking sector and has put the country's sovereign credit rating at risk,” the bank said. “Key threats to the country's sovereign rating also include heightened domestic risk.”

Ratings agencies, which are due to review South Africa's rating before the end of the year, have warned of downgrades over the underperforming economy, and the political turmoil.
    jav 2016
Moody's rates South Africa two notches above subinvestment grade, with a negative outlook, while Fitch and S&P Global Ratings have it just a step above “junk”.

Investors have been jittery since President Jacob Zuma inexplicably changed finance ministers twice within a week in December, replacing the well-respected Nhlanhla Nene with an relatively unknown junior politician.

Zuma re-appointed Nene's predecessor Pravin Gordhan to calm markets after a run on the rand and government bonds, but an ongoing police probe into Gordhan's role in setting up a surveillance unit at the tax department, which police say spied on politicians, has hurt sentiment.

Gordhan, who denies any wrong doing, has called the investigation, as well as fraud charges, which were later dropped, politically motivated. Prosecutors have rejected the accusation

    Dollar rebounds on inflation expectations

    jav free uncensored

The dollar extended gains in Asian trading on Thursday, rebounding on a rise in US Treasury yields on higher inflation expectations following Republican candidate Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election.

Prices fell on benchmark 10-year Treasury notes and 30-year bonds, pushing yields to their highest levels in 10 months on Wednesday in a dramatic turnaround from a massive selloff in risk assets and jump in safe-haven bonds on Trump's stunning upset.

Speculation in markets that Trump would enact protectionist trade policies and put upward pressure on US wages and boost inflation helped lift US bond yields.

The dollar was last up 0.1 percent at 105.72 after rising as high as 105.95, its highest since July 27. It had fallen as low as 101.19 yen on Wednesday.

“US yields were part of the reason for the dollar's rise, but there was also a lot of 'buy the rumour, sell the fact' and unwinding of the 'Trump trade,' after it played out, and a return to fundamentals,” said Mitsuo Imaizumi, chief currency strategist at Daiwa Securities in Tokyo.

Investors still expect the US Federal Reserve to raise interest rates at its December policy meeting, after being on hold since hiking rates in December 2015.

About 85 percent of 62 respondents in a survey taken on Wednesday after the shock vote said the Fed would go ahead with a rate rise, its first in a year. Forecasts came from several of the Wall Street primary dealers as well as European analysts.

Trump stated during the campaign that he would spend more on developing US infrastructure, which could increase the US budget deficit and Treasury supply. Trump also will take office with Republican majorities in both chambers of the US Congress that could help him implement his legislative agenda.

Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Neel Kashkari on Wednesday said he sees continued sluggish growth ahead for the US economy, unless lawmakers and the president “get going” on policies to boost productivity and population.

The euro spiked as high as $1.1299 on Wednesday, its highest since September 8, before tumbling to $1.0902. It last stood at $1.0925, up 0.2 percent.

The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six major rivals, was at 98.537 after rising to an overnight high of 98.704, its highest since October 28
